Description

An unusual botanical study of horse chestnut leaves that look as if they are dancers in tutus. The artist uses a soft, gestural brush to create movement and depth.

The artist has signed and dated to the lower left corner and there is a gallery label at the reverse with the artist's name and address.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some wear to the paint around the edges and general wear and dirt to the surface. There are losses to the to lower corners of the board.

Artist Biography

Barbara Doyle was a British artist, born in Halifax, North Yorkshire in 1917. She spent most of her life living on the South Coast of England. She painted her whole life, right into her later years. She was appointed a member of the Arun Society during her career and exhibited widely across the UK, including at prestigious London venues including the Mall Galleries.
