Inscribed to the reverse: The monastery of Montserrat sits 55km inland, and west of Barcelona. The Building seen here was built in the 19th century but a percentage of it was here in the 8th century. In the 10th century Benedictine monks moved here from Ripoll and the Abbey became of much importance until destroyed by the French in 1812.
