Description

This beautiful hand painted oval miniature depicts the magnificent, marble white Taj Mahal in the Indian city of Agra. Commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the Taj Mahal is home to the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal and the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The 42 acre complex includes a mosque and guest house, set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall. This charming, grand tour painting is well presented in its original carved wood frame. Glazed. On a bone-like substrate.

Condition

The bracket holding the frame's foot in place needs replacing. Otherwise in fine condition.
