Late 19th Century Oil - Working the Land
Description
A fine view of two men working the land with red-roofed houses and a palatial building on a hill in the background. There is an accomplished sensitivity in the painting of both figures and architecture, complemented by a warm rendering of natural light. Presented in a distressed gilt frame with a beaded inner edge. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The canvas has been relined. There is stable craquelure and some discolouration to the varnish. There is a slight abrasion to the surface at the right edge and inspection under UV light reveals two small areas of restoration at the upper-left corner and lower-right edge. There are some chips and scuffs to the frame. Overall well-presented and in very good condition.
