Artist Biography
A self-taught painter of flowers and greengrocer, Carter lived and exhibited in the Horsham area of Sussex. He was born Jack Harold Irwin Carter in Brixton, south London, and was the son of a dentist. He was said to have declined a contract with the dealer Frost & Reed, which could have given him a national name. Horsham Museum & Art Gallery has a work by Carter.
