James Spencer - Framed 1927 Oil Downham Village
Description
A large picturesque landscape, by artist James Spencer, depicting Downham village, often quoted the most beautiful village in Lancashire. The artist has monogrammed to the lower left corner. Fixed to the reverse is a gallery label inscribed by the artist. The painting is well presented in its original gilt-effect frame and slip. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration caused by surface dirt and a layer of nicotine. The painting looks to have slipped in its frame and could be improved by tightening to the reverse. There is some splitting around the mitre joints of the frame.
