Painter and printmaker, born in Burnley, Lancashire. He originally attended Wirral College of Art, 1961-65, Liverpool College of Art, 1965-66, Birmingham School of Art, 1966-67. A decade later, McPake re-enrolled at art college in Leeds, where he undertook a refresher course, 1977-78. His teaching posts include a spell at Barnsley College of Art, and he has exhibited at the RA. McPake has also shown in mixed exhibitions at Wakefield Art Gallery, who hold examples of his work. He is an elected member of RE, and in 2002 was the winner of the South Yorkshire Open Artist of the Year competition. His work is also on display at Bothy Gallery at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. He has received awards, secured commissions, and has had five solo shows in Stafford Art Gallery, Leeds City Art Gallery, Ilkley and Wakefield Art Gallery. His first solo show was in Sheffield in 1976. McPake is a gallery artist with the Colin Jellicoe Gallery in central Manchester. As a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, he has shown in Paris, London, Moscow and in Norwalk, Connecticut.
