Description

A fine watercolour painting with gouache and pen and ink by the artist John Lewis Stant, depicting a scene in Bruges, Belgium. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. There is a label on the reverse inscribed with the artist's name, date and title. Presented in a grey card mount and in an off-white wooden frame. On watercolour paper.

In fine condition overall, with some scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

John Lewis Stant (1905-1964) was a painter and printmaker born in Dudley, Staffordshire. In 1934 he married Dorothy Cash in Birmingham, migrating to St. Ives soon after. He was a member of St. Ives Society of Artists (1935-1937) and also exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy and Royal Scottish Academy. His death was recorded in Tonbridge, Kent.
