Michael Haswell's (1931-2020) interest in art began at the Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology where he completed a three-year course in shoe design. On completion he continued evening classes in life drawing and had the good fortune to meet Eric Dennis, Bryan Ward and Ann Walker who had all recently joined the Leicester Sketch Club. Michael joined them in a portrait-painting group that ran for many years and joined the Sketch Club in 1965. In the 80s Michael joined various classes at the University Studio where he resumed his interest in figurative sculpture that he now works on regularly in a small private group.
