A striking Victorian portrait of a young lady in mourning attire. Her black hair is neatly parted and worn over her ears. Her rounded face has a youthful shape, but with a tinge of sadness behind her large, rounded eyes. She wears a large brooch and locket over her lace collar. The artist has signed and dated to the lower left and the painting has been presented in a handsome early 20th Century gilt frame with lamb's tongue and beaded strap work. On re-lined canvas.
Condition
The canvas has been fully re-lined and the painting has undergone contemporary restoration. There are areas of over painting and canvas repairs. There is some flaking to the paint along the lower edge, although this is stable.
