Ray - Fine Framed 1920 Oil Jolly Cavalier
Description
A fun filled oil by a very accomplished hand, showing a cavalier drinking heartily from a tankard. His cheeky expression and direct stare over the top of the tankard matched with his tilted stance to get a deep swig of ale gives this character a playful air. The artist has signed indistinctly in the lower left corner.
The painting has been presented in a fine dark wood frame with a gilt inner window.
On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure across the surface. There is some minor paint loss to the cavalier's face. There has been restoration to the paint loss around his feet. There is a line that follows the line of the stretchers. The frame has had restoration art all four corners. There is a mark to the gilt frame and dark wood in the top right edge. There are general surface scuffs but the frame still looks smart given all of this
